Warhammer Online 1.2 patch. Re: BWE bug

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

In regards to my previous post about this AOE bug, if anyone experiences it I don’t advise anyone doing what someone else did. In their infinite wisdom, after returning to the Healer and being bugged, he decided to go on a RP farming spree killing other players intentionally around the city. After a petition from other disgruntled players on our server, a GM appeared and subsequently suspended his account.

In addition, this bug will only kill friendly NPCs and other friendly players so taking this out on the RvR battlefield wouldn’t work anyway. As a side note, if you are affected you can step outside of the city which will remove the problem. Such as zoning to The Maw; using your Book of Binding will not work and of course the Flight Master is out of the question, since he would be dead before you even clicked on him.

Warhammer Online patch 1.2 – Money and RP for team kills

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Tonight has been epic to say the least, what seemed like an average dungeon run turned into a one-man killing machine rampaging through our city. Let’s start by how we got to this point.

My guild TOGs of War had scheduled a BWE (Bloodwrought Enclave) dungeon run, to see if we can get some gear. We entered the lair of Culius Embervine, the skeletal boss in BWE. Unfortunately, we wiped and we released to spawn back to the healer back in Inevitable City. However, as we observed we kept dying, repeatedly, every time we clicked on respawn we received massive damage from thin air. We also noticed the same thing happened to the healer NPC, yes you could imagine what we were thinking at the time. Finally, we figured out that our guildie Evidencee, who by the way is the most famous person on our server right now, was emitting an AOE bug effect most likely caused by our party death with Culius. Only he emitted this, unfortunately he receives damage also but he’s a tank so can take the punches with our healers in tow.

Therefore, you can imagine the fun you can have, killing NPCs in your OWN city. Our guild leader submitted several tickets to CSRs but to no avail, so what the hell let’s see how far we can go with this. Firstly, you can imagine the hilarity as bewildered on-lookers wondered what was going on, came too close to Evidencee, which ended with their demise. The funny thing is, with each Destruction player death, we received Renown Points for the kill as we were still in the party with him plus any silver/gold. The behaviour was the same as with any open RVR, player kills for RP. Except, this time you are killing your own.

As he raged through the city, more and more players followed, it was like following a messiah (although it was prudent to keep a sensible distance). He and our guild did what no other has done on our server, if any server at all thus far. And that is to kill our own king Tchar’zanek. I cannot see this ever happening in normal circumstances as it is just not possible. When Order tries to attack our city, they enter an instance and not the actual city itself. I can tell you now, he was not easy to down and neither are the other NPCs in the upper echelons of the Destruction hierarchy. To put the record straight, no you don’t get a big reward for his death. That is to say, no RP bonuses, no loot bags, nothing. He does respawn quite quickly though.

The death toll throughout the evening in total:

  • Other Destruction players (myself included several times)
  • The king, Tchar’zanek
  • Grumlok
  • Multiple Destruction NPCs
  • Any other minions that happened to be in the way

Finally, we decided to take this outside and warp to the Maw. If we can use this in Reikland or another Tier 4 RvR area, well we would win the campaign in minutes. Unfortunately, as soon as he warped to the area, the AOE bug vanished and normality was restored. Shame, could have had so much fun with it.

Anyway, I took some screenshots of course (notice the amusing banter in chat, and the dwindling of health bars), and a thread has been started on Warhammer Alliance forums. An alliance member of our guild was FRAPing, which he will upload sometime tonight so you will be able to see the video footage.

Nice one Mythic on the new patch, it went down swimmingly.
