Burger and fries meal for 17 grand
After watching a cinema preview of Bolt, which is a cute film by the way and Rhino the hamster was perfectly voice acted, we went to have lunch at Dexter’s. I handed in my 50% off entire bill voucher and waited for them to bring over the Chip and Pin handset. I must have been in automatic mode, similar to when you drive into work every day and never actually recall the journey. I inserted my credit card and started to enter my pin without pressing Enter first, I looked down and got a nice surprise:

If I had accidentally completed the transaction, I think I would have gotten a call from Mastercard pretty quick. I recollect one time when they blocked an Ebay purchase because it was a large amount, I think a burger meal for £17K would probably fall under that category. Was it not for the voucher, the meal would have been £34K, for that amount I would want a freebie Aston Martin DB9.
The one thing I hate about these things is, some places you need to enter your pin first whilst others you need to press the Enter button. Also, our waitress had to retry 3 times to put through the transaction because only one handset can dial out to Barclays at any one time. With all the technology around us, you would have thought that they wouldn’t be using dial up for this sort of thing.
Talking of credit cards, card cloning seems to be on the rise lately. This is most likely due to the current economic climate, and partly due to people’s lack of self-awareness. A lot of people do not check their bank statements before the alarm is raised. Now I am thinking of the ridiculous bank charges for going 1p over your agreed overdraft, or for a payment that was 1 day late. I should stop now before this turns into a rant of epic proportions.
