Let the drooling commence – CES 2009
Girl in a sweet shop, that’s how I would be if I was there in Las Vegas attending the CES 2009 gadget heaven conference. Oh boy. After I finished salivating all over my keyboard, here are my top 5 wants from the show in no particular order (images from Engadget):

LG 15inch OLED TV – If you think the current HD technology is cool wait until you see the upcoming OLED screens. The image quality is absolutely phenomenal, and mark my words this is going to be huge when this technology swings into full production. My first hands on experience with OLED was from a friend of mine who works at Nokia with their new N85 phone. That looked lovely, but to have that quality on a TV screen is mind blowing. Last year Sony showcased their 11 inch version and it blew me away then, but this is much more reasonably sized. The price is going to be extortionate so us mere mortals will have to wait.

iriver e-book reader/notebook – Not that I actually NEED something like this since I have other devices that does similar things, but I like the innovation from iriver and this is just another example of their evolutionary path. Something like this would be great for jotting the odd note or two at a meeting and with the e-ink technology we may be able to do away with books completely, well almost…

Logitech Harmony 1100 – We all have them, and that’s the mountainous piles of remote controls we have for our digital home. Logitech enters the fray to solve that problem with their all-in-one remote control with LCD display. They have released something like this before with the Harmony 1000, but now with improved functionality. Be prepared to put down a few hundred for this.

iriver P7 PMP – Sexy is the name of the game, I love the look of this minimalist design. I am a bit of an iriver fan because you are almost guaranteed on the following for video/music playback support: DivX, Xvid, H.264, OGG, FLAC. Not many of the other manufacturers support all the codecs that people use nowadays, not to mention the ability to drag and drop files at will without the need for antiquated front end software like other mp3 players *cough* iPod. The sound quality is definitely up there, just make sure you hook it up with some decent Sennheiser or Bose headphones.

Palm Pre smart phone – I can’t really say this is drool worthy, in my opinion it looks damn ugly. But there’s no doubting the potential of their new webOS platform. Basically, if you have knowledge of CSS, HTML and XML you can develop for the OS just like that and create your own applications with minimal learning curve. Wow. Another wow feature is the wireless charger, no cable tangling when replenishing the juice. Google now has fresh competition against their Android OS.
